BEIJING, Dec. 17 Kyodo
Kim Jong Suk, a former editor-in-chief of the North Korean newspaper Minju Choson, or Democratic Korea, has become the head of a body in charge of promoting cultural relations with other countries including Japan, according to a report by North Korean official media.
The fact came to light as the Korean Central News Agency in a dispatch Wednesday referred to Kim as chairwoman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries being a participant at a reception hosted Tuesday by Cuba's ambassador.
Kim is the wife of the late Ho Tam, a former foreign minister and a former member of the Political Bureau of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea. Ho played a key role in promoting inter-Korean relations as well as bilateral relations with the United States and Japan in the late 1970s and 1980s.
The post of the chairperson of the cultural committee had been vacant for some time.
