Sinpha Revolutionary Site

The Sinpha revolutionary site where materials on the revolutionary activities of the anti-Japanese woman hero Kim Jong Suk is situated in Kim Jong Suk County, Ryanggang Province.

Located in the basin of the Amnok River, a historic river, it was a place favourable for the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army to make contacts with Hungnam where a large number of workers lived during the military occupation of Korea by the Japanese imperialists. It was a good place to expand revolutionary organizations to the southern areas on the east coast and deep into the inland areas.

In the spring of Juche 26 (1937) President Kim Il Sung assigned
Kim Jong Suk to the tasks to conduct activities out at Taoquanli as a base, go to Sinpha and set up a network of underground organizations in the Samsu area and expand the organizational network of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland in industrial cities and farming and fishing villages on the east coast.

Kim Jong Suk went out to Sinpha in May that year, fixed secret liaison spots at the Kwangson Photographer’s, Sinpha Inn and the draper’s shop, and waged vigorous revolutionary activities among liaison men from different places.

In June the same year she formed a party circle in the Sinpha area and the Singalpha branch of the ARF and led their work.

Thanks to her leadership the Sangjanggu sub-branch, Hajanggu sub-branch, Kangandong sub-branch, Aanri sub-branch, Ohamdok sub-branch and different other grass-roots organizations were formed under the Singalpha branch of the ARF and people of all walks of life were enlisted in them.

While she stayed in Taoquanli and Sinpha area, Kim Jong Suk went out to the secret camp on Mt. Paektu, Samsu, Sinhung, Hungnam, Pukchong, Tanchon and many other places at home to lead revolutionary organizations and dispatched many operatives to different places at home.

She secured and sent relief materials to the KPRA and reconnoitered the enemy’s movement to actively help military activities.

Thanks to her energetic activities ARF organizations were firmly built up in the Sinpha area and people’s struggle was waged vigorously, and thus the place turned into a reliable area for expanding the network of underground revolutionary organizations.

The Sinpha revolutionary site contains a statue of Kim Jong Suk and photos and relics showing her revolutionary activities.
