The DPRK national flag
fluttering with dignity and spirit of Juche Korea and its national
emblem are linked with the immortal achievements of Kim Jong Suk, the anti-Japanese heroine who devoted her all to carry out the line of state-building set forth by President Kim Il Sung.
When
the work of establishing a national government was in progress, she
made tireless efforts to ensure that the national flag and national
emblem were made as intended by President Kim Il Sung.
One day an official came to her because designing the national flag and national emblem was not smoothly carried out.
Saying
that the national flag and emblem must be acceptable to the people not
only in north Korea but also in south Korea, she stressed that it must
represent well the President’s idea and line for building a new country. She said that General Kim Il Sung
had instructed that the ground of the national flag should be red
colour which symbolizes the blood of the fighters shed for the freedom
and independence of the country and the revolutionary forces rallied
around the Party and that a five-pointed star and its rays should be
drawn on the upper part of the national emblem to represent well the
bright future of the country and revolutionary traditions.
She emphasized over and over again that the national flag and emblem must incorporate a star, the symbol of the brilliant revolutionary traditions of our Party and the future of the country.
As
a result, the argument that a plough should be drawn in the circle of
the national flag dropped, and the national flag and emblem were
designed in accordance with the President’s intention. When
the design for the national emblem was near completion, the President
said that electrification should be reflected on the national emblem
and that the furnace on it was not agreeable.
Kim Jong Suk suggested that it would be good if a power station was drawn on the national emblem.
Very
much satisfied, the President gave the final touch to the design by
personally drawing the Suphung Power Station and a high-voltage
transmission tower there.
Thus the designs of the DPRK national flag and emblem were completed.
Greeting
the 57th anniversary of the DPRK, the Korean people look back upon her
revolutionary life dedicated to the founding of the Republic and are
filled with a burning desire to build a great prosperous powerful
nation without fail on this land under the Songun revolutionary
leadership of Kim Jong Il.
