Pyongyang, June 8, 2007 (KCNA) -- Efforts to ensure social insurance and social security systems on a high level are being exerted in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The example of the Hamju County Farmers' Rest Home has been generalized in all the other rest centers throughout the country with success. The Sokwangsa Rest Home and the recuperation home attached to the Kum Song Tractor Plant are being renovated to suit the requirements of the Songun era.
A great care is being shown to affording convenience in the life of the disabled soldiers, war veterans and women and promoting their health.
The houses for the aged, houses for the handicapped without kith or kin and convalescent hospitals for disabled soldiers are being facelifted at the state expense in Pyongyang, Jagang Province, South Hamgyong Province and other areas.
Subsidies are paid in time to the special disabled soldiers for their health promotion and the preferential supply is being done to their protectors across the country.
The special subsidy system for the women with many children is in force on a high level.

Rakrang Physical Rehabilitation Center Starts Operation
Pyongyang, May 8, 2006 (KCNA) -- The Rakrang Physical Rehabilitation Center located in Thongil Street, Pyongyang, has begun its operation on the occasion of the Day of the World Red Cross and the Red Crescent (May 8). The center, with a total floor space of 2,900 square meters, has been built on the site of 4,300 square meters by the joint efforts of the Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
It, equipped well with necessary facilities for diagnosis and treatment of disabled people, has a patient assessment room, casting room, plaster modification room, sick ward, physiotherapy department room and a modern orthopedic surgical operating theater.
The center produces various kinds of prostheses, crutches and tricycles for more than 400 cripples a year.
Michael Rechsteiner, head of Physical Rehabilitation Programme of the ICRC, told KCNA at the centre that the ICRC has made a contribution to treating over 2,300 disabled persons at the prosthesis center built in Songrim City, North Hwanghae Province, since it started activities in the DPRK in 2002.
Basing itself on the already-made successes, the ICRC will impart technical skill to the employees of the newly-built center so that they can acquire a high level of technique. And in close cooperation with the Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society, it will do its best so as to manufacture prostheses for disabled persons on a normal basis and make the disabled not feel any physical inconvenience, he added.
