DPRK Successfully Conducts Underground Nuclear Test
Pyongyang, October 9, 2006 (KCNA) -- The Korean Central News Agency released the following report: The field of scientific research in the DPRK successfully conducted an underground nuclear test under secure conditions on October 9, Juche 95 (2006) at a stirring time when all the people of the country are making a great leap forward in the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation.
It has been confirmed that there was no such danger as radioactive emission in the course of the nuclear test as it was carried out under a scientific consideration and careful calculation.
The nuclear test was conducted with indigenous wisdom and technology 100 percent. It marks a historic event as it greatly encouraged and pleased the KPA and people that have wished to have powerful self-reliant defence capability.
It will contribute to defending the peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the area around it.

Erklärung des Außenministeriums der KDVR vom 3. Oktober 2006
Infolge der immer zunehmenden Drohungen der USA mit einem Nuklearkrieg und ihrer verruchtsten Machenschaften für Sanktionen und Druck werden heute auf der koreanischen Halbinsel die höchsten Interessen und die Sicherheit unseres Staates ernsthaft beeinträchtigt, und es entsteht eine harte Lage, in der es um Existenz oder Untergang unserer Nation geht.
In der letzten Zeit gaben die USA durch die Annahme einer räuberischen „Resolution“ des UNO-Sicherheitsrates tatsächlich eine „Kriegserklärung“ gegen uns ab und inszenieren im Anschluss daran auf der koreanischen Halbinsel und in deren Umgebung noch tobender ihre Militärmanöver und Aufstockung militärischer Streitkräfte.
Gleichzeitig versuchen die USA verzweifelt, mit ihrem Wahnsinn, durch ökonomische Isolierung und Strangulierung unseres Landes die von unserem Volk gewählte sozialistische Ordnung zu zerstören, mit allerlei niederträchtigen Mitteln und Methoden ihre Sanktionen und Blockade gegen uns zu internationalisieren.
Gegenwärtig ging die Bush-Administration soweit, dass sie uns ein Ultimatum im Sinne stellten, uns zu züchtigen, falls wir in von ihr festgesetzter Frist nicht in die Knie gehen.
Die Machenschaften der USA zur Isolierung und Strangulierung unserer Republik gehen über die äußerste Grenze hinaus, was die übelste Lage nach sich zieht. In all dieser Situation können wir über die Entwicklung der Lage nicht mehr hinwegsehen.
Wir erklärten schon, dass wir angesichts der verruchten feindseligen Handlungen der Bush-Administration alle notwendigen Gegenmaßnahmen zur Verteidigung der Souveränität des Landes und der Würde der Nation treffen werden.
Das Außenministerium der KDVR erklärt im Auftrag in Bezug darauf, dass wir eine neue Maßnahme zur Stärkung unserer den Krieg hemmenden Abschreckungskraft für die Selbstverteidigung einleiten, ernsthaft wie folgt:
Erstens wird im wissenschaftlichen Forschungsbereich der KDVR in absehbarer Zeit ein Atomtest mit absoluter Sicherheitsgarantie durchgeführt.
Unter der Bedingung, dass die gegenwärtige USA-Administration das KDVR-USA-Rahmenabkommen über Bord warf und unsere Souveränität und unser Existenzrecht ernsthaft bedrohte, traten wir unabwendbar aus dem Atomwaffensperrvertrag aus.
Gemäß der Eskalation der Drohungen der USA mit einem Atomkrieg und ihrer Machenschaften für Sanktionen gegen uns und für Druck auf uns erklärten wir offiziell, dass wir im Laufe der transparenten Gegenmaßregeln und gesetzmäßig moderne Atomwaffen herstellten.
Die Verkündung des Nuklearwaffenbesitzes setzt den Atomtest voraus.
Die extremen Drohungen der USA mit einem Nuklearkrieg und ihre Machenschaften für Sanktionen gegen uns und Druck auf uns nötigten uns dazu, einen Atomtest, ein unabdingbares Erfordernis des Prozesses der Bereitstellung einer den Atomkrieg verhindernden Abschreckungskraft, als dementsprechende sich verteidigende Gegenmaßnahme in die Wege zu leiten.
Zweitens wird die KDVR niemals als Erste Nuklearwaffen anwenden und sich erlauben, mit Atomwaffen zu drohen und Atomwaffen zu übertragen.
Wenn es keine eigene zuverlässige einen Krieg verhindernde Abschreckungskraft gibt, wird das eigene Volk bedauerlich geopfert und die Souveränität des Staates erbarmungslos erdrosselt. Das ist eine bittere Lehre aus blutigen Tragödien überall in der Welt, wo das Wolfsgesetz wirkt.
Unsere Atomwaffen werden als zuverlässige, den Krieg verhindernde Abschreckungskraft bleiben, die bezweckt, von A. bis Z. vor aggressiven Drohungen der USA die höchsten Interessen unseres Staates und die Sicherheit unserer Nation zu schützen, auf der koreanischen Halbinsel den Ausbruch eines neuen Krieges zu verhindern und den Frieden und die Stabilität zu verteidigen.
Wir werden immer als ein verantwortlicher Atomwaffenstaat unsere Pflicht gegenüber der internationalen Gesellschaft im Bereich für Atomwaffensperre aufrichtig erfüllen.
Drittens wird sich die KDVR in jeder Weise dafür anstrengen, die Entnuklearisierung der koreanischen Halbinsel zu realisieren und weltweite atomare Abrüstung und die entgültige Abschaffung der Nuklearwaffen zu beschleunigen.
Über ein Halbjahrhundert lang waren wir direkt atomaren Drohungen und Erpressungen der USA ausgesetzt. Daher schlugen wir als Erste die Denuklearisierung der koreanischen Halbinsel vor und unternahmen maximale Anstrengungen für deren Realisierung.
Doch traten die USA systematisch all unsere Großzügigkeit und Aufrichtigkeit mit Füßen und missbrauchten das Ideal unserer Entnuklearisierung für Isolierung und Strangulierung der von unserem Volk gewählten Idee und Ordnung.
Unser Endziel besteht nicht in der „Denuklearisierung“, die unsere einseitige Entwaffnung auf der koreanischen Halbinsel führt, sondern in der Entnuklearisierung, die darauf gezielt ist, feindselige Beziehungen zwischen der KDVR und den USA zu liquidieren und auf der koreanischen Halbinsel und in deren Umgebung den Herd aller atomaren Bedrohungen zu beseitigen.
Durch Dialoge und Verhandlungen die Denuklearisierung der koreanischen Halbinsel zu realisieren – das ist unser unveränderlicher und prinzipienfester Standpunkt.
Wir werden allerlei Herausforderungen und Schwierigkeiten mutig überwinden und aktive Anstrengungen dafür unternehmen, in unserer Weise die Entnuklearisierung der koreanischen Halbinsel zu realisieren.

We congratulate the DPRK on the conclusion of the scienfitic test of its indepedent self defensive deterrent.This has
delivered a telling blow to the US imperialists and world reactionaries of all hues. It is a powerful inspiration to the world people who fight for independence. The successful test has greatly increased the DPRK self defence
potential and means that the DPRK stands invincible and commands dignity and respect. It is also graphically demonstrated the self reliant nature of science and industry in the DPRK having used 100% Korean technology and resources.The test proves that the DPRK is an advanced country.
We condemn all attempts by the US imperialists, their satellite and followers and others to stifle the DPRK by means of sanctions and blockade. Every country has the sovereign right to defence and to have what weapons it chooses. May the DPRK continue to defy the US imperialists and international reactionaries!

The way the nuclear explosive test by North Korea on 9th October is condemned by the Security Council members with US imperialism in the forefront, and China joining the chore is nothing but sheer hypocrisy. North Korea is a small country threatened by US imperialism through its powerful military, naval and air force stationed in South Korea, Japan and nearby island bases. Bush has blatantly threatened it calling it part of ‘axis of evil’ and has repeatedly mentioned about all forms of sanctions and even ‘ pre-emptive’ attacks. Even after half a century the people’s desire for re-unification of Korea is stalled by US imperialism and its agents and allies ruling South Korea and Japan. The latter is continuing its ridicule of Korean people and is imposing its on boycott of the leftist government in North Korea. A calculated misinformation and hate campaign is continued in most heinous farms by the US imperialists and their allies against the leaders of North Korea and their policies. The other Security Council Members including China are competing with each other in isolating North Korea. None of them dares to criticise the provocative propaganda and actions of Bush regime against it.
It was in this situation North Korea is compelled to develop its defence set –up, its rocket technology and now to test a nuclear device to protect its sovereignty . Instead of supporting it, the way the UPA government in India joined the imperialists’ gang to condemn it expose its servile and comprador character. In a world situation when the NPT and all other nuclear safeguards are made meaningless by US Imperialists, other imperialist powers and Israel, and when US imperialists are intensifying their neo-colonial plunder, aggression and even occupation of third world countries including creation of nuclear terror, North Korea has the right to develop its defence including nuclear defence to protect its sovereignty.
All progressive forces should support North Korea in its efforts to protect its security and sovereignty and call for total nuclear disarmament. The hypocrisy of US imperialists, their allies and lackeys shouting ‘wolf, wolf’ when North Korea explodes a nuclear device, while further strengthening huge nuclear arms stockpile, and intensifying hegemonic aggressive acts should be exposed.

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Great Britain
(Marxist-Leninist) sends its heartfelt congratulations to the peace-
loving people of the DPRK for the successful nuclear test conducted
by the Korean People's Army on 9 October 2006.
The imperialist media have been sarcastically quoting the press
release of the Korean Central News Agency, which stated that the
test "will contribute to defending the peace and stability on the
Korean peninsula and in the area around it". However, sarcasm and
puerile 'logic' aside, this statement of the KCNA does in fact
reflect reality. Perhaps the idea that something so potentially
violent and destructive as the development of nuclear military
capabilities can be a force for peace is too much of a paradox for
the simple-minded bourgeois hacks who earn their living by
slandering socialist Korea.
The CPGB-ML is of the view that humanity must get rid of nuclear
weapons. But we are also firmly of the view that nuclear disarmament
must be universal and non-discriminatory. Imperialism, in particular
US imperialism, while arming itself to the teeth with the latest
nuclear technology, as well as with non-nuclear weapons, is bent
upon disarming all other people for the sole purpose of dominating
and subjugating them. In view of this, we are firmly of the opinion
that the Korean and other peoples have every right to acquire
nuclear capabilities, for civil as well as military purposes, in
order that the nuclear threat may not be used by the US and other
imperialist countries to bully them.
If the imperialists do not want independent countries to develop
nuclear weapons, they should stop threatening those countries and
enter into comprehensive negotiations on multilateral disarmament.
Let the imperialist bandits lay down their weapons if they want to
see genuine disarmament. George W Bush, condemning the DPRK's
nuclear test, had the temerity to "reaffirm" his "commitment to a
nuclear-free Korean peninsula"! This from the president of a state
that maintains 37,000 troops, a substantial stock of nuclear
warheads and a nuclear submarine base in south Korea!
It is US imperialism and its allies that have actually used nuclear
weapons. It is they who have unleashed horrendous destruction on
whole cities. It is they who have developed so-called tactical
nuclear warheads and have used radioactive weaponry. It is the
imperialist powers that have refused to rule out first use of
nuclear weapons.
While arming itself to the teeth, imperialism wishes to disarm
people everywhere. The revolutionary proletariat and the oppressed
people can only respond in one way - by arming to confront
imperialism. It fills us with joy and confidence that the DPRK is
playing such an honourable and leading role, and we express our
wholehearted support.
Let the imperialist hyenas and their lackeys (including not a few in
the 'left' movement in Britain) howl with impotent rage that the
DPRK is now capable of deterring the real imperialist nuclear
threat. Their rage means nothing to the masses of the world
suffering under the yoke of imperialism; these masses long for
freedom, for independence, for an end to imperialist domination. For
these masses, the DPRK's successful nuclear test is a great victory.
Long live the Workers' Party of Korea!

1) What is the reason for the test?
The reason is uniquely for the purpose of self-defense. The DPR of Korea
has been under continuous threatening from the USA for more than half a
century.
The testing of our nuclear device serve us to further enhance such
technology, to speed up the building of deterrence against USA invasion
and to demonstrate the world that we possess such power.
2) Does DPR Korea have any intentions of using the weapons against its neighbours?
Absolutely not. A nuclear weapon in the DPRK is a thousand times safer
than one in Washington. We shall remember that the only country in the
world that used it was USA themselves. Also it's obvious that Bush is the
Leader of a new imperialist power that do not hesitate to kill civilians
and destroy the cultures of Afghanistan or Iraq for instance.
The DPRK cannot remain a mere spectator and let Washington to blockade our sovereign nation threatening our government and people.
The nuclear deterrence is to safeguard the nation. If USA knows that we
have such capacity (nuclear) and that we can deliver it at any part of
their territory (intercontinental missiles), they will think twice before
doing it.
We consider USA like an arrogant bully that pressures and wishes to
control all countries in the world. But once a small nation can have
strong weapons, it can remain independent and prevent any attack, so
increasing the peace and stability in the zone.
DPRK always wishes the peace, but will not beg for it. It's not the North
Korean troops that are in Alaska, but the american ones that occupied
South Korea and wish to accomplish the global domination.
3) What do you think of the other nations critique of the tests?
The DPRK is a sovereign nation, so it has all the rights to defend its
sovereignty in any manner as long as it doesn't harm other countries.
Israel, UK or France have nuclear weapons. Why our country has not the
right to possess them?
Many nations talk so much about peace and progress critizicing the DPRK.
But when USA attacked Iraq, who did something to prevent it?
This is a complete hipocrisy. Nobody will protect North Korea if USA wants to invade it, so we have to rely in our own forces and find all means to protect the society, the government chosen by its people.
A father will do anything for protecting his children. The DPRK is exactly
doing that. It's completely logical.
In North Korea we have a saying: 'Although the dog barks, the train runs'.
This means, no matter how many critiques or blockades, we will continue
the path chosen by us.
